Volunteer - INTERNSHIPS
The Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports intern program
is designed to provide opportunities to individuals interested in
Adaptive Sports, Therapeutic Recreation and Adventure Recreation
to gain knowledge and professional experience in these growing fields.
Interns are a valuable part of Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports and
over the last few years our internship program has grown and expanded
to include summer as well as winter programs. Interns get hands
on experience in all aspects of programming, people skills and technical
skills. Internships occur seasonally throughout the year with up
to four interns selected per season. An internship in either season
requires a full time commitment for 4 months.
The winter internship begins December 1st and runs through April
1st, after the ski resort closes. The winter program runs 7 days
a week including holiday periods (except Christmas day). This commitment
requires the intern be available to work through the holidays. The
summer internship beings on June 15th and runs to Sept. 15th. Summer
programs generally run Monday through Friday but have many events
that fall on the weekends. All internships are fulltime commitments
and potential interns must take this financial burden into consideration
when applying. Depending on the season and the participation volume,
interns typically get one day off every eight to ten days.
Qualifications:
All interns must be at least 21 years of age, have first aid and
CPR certification and the ability to commit to an entire season.
Vermont Adaptive is looking for intern staff that is self-motivated,
takes initiative and has some experience with working with people
with disabilities and adventure recreation. It is helpful to have
technical outdoor skills and the ability to work well with people.
All interns have a strong sense of hard work, flexibility, a love
for the outdoors, an open mind and a love for working with people.
Depending on the season, intern benefits vary.
