Volunteer Applications Now Being Accepted For Summer 2026!

Vermont Adaptive succeeds because of the dedication of more than 500 highly-trained volunteer instructors. We are searching for energetic, dedicated individuals who have a passion for sports and want to share that passion with others. Come volunteer for one, many or tons of days – no day requirement!

Each year, new and returning volunteer instructors are required to complete an annual volunteer application. 

General Volunteer Prerequisites

  • Be an advanced intermediate level skier/rider (winter prerequisite) or an experienced cyclist, rock climber or paddler (summer prerequisite) depending on the activity.
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Complete the entire application process noted below.
  • Once your application and background check are approved, you will be added to our coordinator email distribution list to learn more about volunteer opportunities or important announcements, dates and events.
  • Attend all MANDATORY volunteer orientation and training sessions required for your specific sport, either in person or virtually.

  • You must first complete and submit your Volunteer Application in order to receive instructions on how to complete your background check.
  • Current volunteers with recent background checks will receive information on their expiration date to prevent any lapse in volunteer eligibility.

  • Everyone must first take the “SafeSport Trained Core Course.”
  • Then, annually for the next three years, there is a 30 minute refresher to maintain “SafeSport Trained” status.
  • On your fifth year of maintaining SafeSport Trained status you’ll start the cycle with the first course again.
  • You will receive an email from Sarah Keith as to which course to take after your application and background check are approved. Any issues, contact Sarah ([email protected])
  • Complete Annual Thinkific Online Orientation
  • Complete Seasonal Online Training Course
    • Summer Training Course goes live early May
    • Winter Training Course goes live early November

REQUIREMENTS – BEFORE VOLUNTEERING, YOU MUST COMPLETE:

  1. Annual Volunteer Application
  2. Annual NCSI Background Check (ages 18 and older)
  3. SafeSport Training

  3. Edit/Confirm/Enter your current information.
  4. Follow Additional Prompts

Everyone must complete and pass a NEW ANNUAL Background Check and update their SafeSport Trained status. After you submit/renew your volunteer application, you’ll receive an email with links to update those for the calendar year.
