1/9/2025 – My name is Meriwether, and I am one of the Vermont Adaptive interns at Bolton Valley Resort this winter. I am from northern Virginia, and I’m living in Vermont for school.
I chose to come to Vermont because of the mountains and sunsets; I love skiing, rock climbing, hiking, skinning, and anything else outdoors. I am known to always have a snack in hand, my favorites being cheese sticks, chocolates, and blue sour strips. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Vermont (UVM), and I’m studying Public Health and Linguistics. As a public health student, I’m interested in promoting healthy choices as the easiest option for communities by improving access to things like healthy foods, activities, and outdoor recreation. This includes making skiing more accessible for people, so that it is easier for people to try new activities and explore the outdoors.
At UVM, I am an officer in the telemark ski club, which introduces college students to telemark skiing by providing equipment, logistics and instruction. I’ve been skiing most of my life at a small mountain in West Virginia called Timberline. My parents tele ski, so in middle school I switched to tele as well. In addition to skiing, I am a rock climber. I have been climbing for most of my life, and I have experience as a summer camp counselor for a rock climbing camp as well as assisting adaptive climbing with an organization in northern Virginia. I’m excited to start working with adaptive skiers here at Vermont Adaptive, and to learn more about the different possibilities for adaptive skiing.
