Demery joined the Vermont Adaptive team as a Program Specialist in October of 2023. Raised in New England, she loves to share the wonders of our local landscapes with anybody who’s curious, and is particularly passionate about skill sharing and stewardship. She began her adventure sports instructor journey at Saint Michael’s College, where she received a B.S. in Environmental Science and Political Science, as well as an endorsement in Adventure Sports Coaching. Through their Adventure Sports Center, Demery led rock and ice climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, whitewater and sea kayaking, and hiking/backpacking trips. She became the student climbing coordinator and was able to mentor and facilitate trainings for new instructors.
Demery worked for Petra Cliffs Mountaineering School for 4 years, with climbers of all ages and abilities. She has particularly enjoyed teaching the Women’s Climbing Clinics, the University of Vermont’s Rock Climbing class, co-guiding ice climbing clinics during the Smuggler’s Notch Ice Bash, as well as leading kayaking and walking naturalist educational programs. She is a Ladies Climbing Coalition Ambassador, volunteering to facilitate meetups and programs to empower and connect women through climbing.
Demery has volunteered to lead workshops on Leave No Trace, Tree ID, trail work for climbers, and various stewardship projects for CRAG VT’s Vermont Climbing Festival since the first one in 2019. Demery has been a ski and bike park patroller at Bolton Valley Ski Area since 2021, and has worked with the trail crew during a few shoulder seasons. She has also led trail crews for the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, building and maintaining sustainable trails all around Vermont, as well as an invasive species removal crew kayaking all along Lake Champlain and its tributaries. In 2022 she was the Northern Lead Caretaker for the Green Mountain Club, educating hikers on Vermont’s alpine zones and performing trail and shelter maintenance along the Long Trail.
